Weird Fish at Moormans River

Can anybody help me identify this fish?  I've caught about five of these out of the Moormans River over the past few weeks and I can't figure out what they are.  It looks like some kind of half largemouth/half bluegill.  If you have any ideas post a comment.

  1. It appears to be a juvenile smallmouth: color, and dorsal and anal fins. www.bigfishtackle.com/cgi-bin/gforum/gforum.c...

  2. It's a Rock Bass. Check it out on Wikipedia for more info. I catch a ton of them in the North Fork of the Shenendoah.

  3. I've been told that these fish (appearing to be half bluegill and half smallmouth) are called warheads when they have red eyes like this. The red eyes differentiate them from rock bass
